Under the new ELMS scheme English farms will receive financial reward if they demonstrate high levels of environmental stewardship. Dartington Estate is part of a pilot project for the government’s new agri-environmental scheme to encourage farmers to manage their land in a more sustainable way.ĮLMS – the Environmental Land Management Scheme – is due to be fully rolled out by 2024 but test sites, to evaluate the delivery of the scheme, have now been launched. The new scheme will replace other payments currently available to farmers and landowners, such as as annual farm subsidies, which they received as part of the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy.
